Rainy Monday!

Yesterday was a VERY rainy Monday! This weekend I have a Photo session and needed to brush up on some of my Strobist (using my off camera lighting) technique. So I stayed in my PJ's until lunchtime time and immersed myself in any resource I could find, the wonders of the internet. Then I got dressed and put it into action. There was flash going off like mad! Anything and everything got a taste of it yesterday. By the end of the day my whole family was seeing flashes of light.

_DSC3510 web

First up was My Princess.

_DSC3502 web

Then she got a little antsy and irritated and quit on me.

_DSC3466 web

Next up was Daisy, but she wouldn't look at me!

_DSC3506 web

then Daddio and then I was starting to mess up his "zone" while playing bejeweled...
(he still so handsome:)

_DSC3462 web

Okay is this a tad disturbing, the doll that is. This is the Liv Doll that caused all the drama the day before. You can pull off her hair and change her "wig".
Well she was my next victim and she didn't complain one time.

_DSC3517 web

Then the boys came home...

_DSC3540 web

and even the neighborhood kid decided to play along, spptt.. I had to bribe them with a cool facebook picture.

_DSC3565 web

Worked like a charm....

Then the sun was gone and I was done. A day full learning:)

i heart faces, dramtic BW

_DSC2788 copy 2 web

This week over at i heart faces the theme is dramatic B&W. I took this picture of my beautiful niece a couple of weeks ago. Allie is just so natural and chic! Her look is so dramatic and beautiful I just knew it would fit right in for this weeks theme. Don't forget to go and check out all the other DRAMA entries just click HERE!

Yesterday the gang came down and we celebrated my younger sisters birthday! We were missing a few kiddos from the normal crowd but it did not seem to make any difference in the "craziness".

_DSC3333 webg

Coo Coo is recently recovering from 2 different surgeries so she was up to a photo. So she featured her beautiful flowers her Little Mae picked for her.

_DSC3332 web

Started the evening off with a bang (or shove for that matter). This is Carson, just look at those baby blues. Who wouldn't believe a word he says! He came in "pouting" his brother pushed him and hurt his arm (1 hour afer the attack) guess he didn't want to stop what he was doing earlier to come and tell. LOL

_DSC3337 web

This is big brother Mason, now who would you believe the sweet baby blue eyed boy or this boy whose smile just screams TROUBLE!!! (he is really sweet to just a little on the wild side)

_DSC3350 copy web

Finally, after that drama was calmed down we went back our important business, Chit Chatting about anything and everything. Mimi was filling us in on all the latest old school news.

My Mom was intensely listening while Addy Cake was in training mode she will getting in on the good stuff one day!

_DSC3341 web

One more Melt Down before cake! This time it my Little Princess and Mae and Cabell were watching while staying at safe distance. (would have had a shot of her but she was to tight to my leg I couldn't move, yikes!)

_DSC3347 web

Cabell just could not believe how long this went on, all over a "liv" doll wig!! Okay let's be real here she was acting like "a BRAT"

_DSC3357 web

Then it was time for Cake!

_DSC3362 web

Mae was just beside herself waiting!

_DSC3367 web

She was picking "her flower", there was only one pink one so things were getting a little intense. 1 pink flower and 3 little girls....hmmm.. Oh yeah it is my mom's birthday, I can get the pink flower and after the way my Princess acted she definitely was NOT getting the only pink flower!

_DSC3370 web

I think Cabell had here own ideas and didn't need the pink flower she had an alternative snack. Hee hee ho ho ho!!!!

_DSC3363 web

Happy Birthday Coo Coo!!

_DSC3371 web

And then of course my dad always gets his fair share of the cake.

_DSC3372 web

He has come to expect this now but shared with us he is the one laughing as he gets one more bit than all of us. We give him his "just a smidgen plate" and then he gets a real portion. He is pretty sneaky!

_DSC3375 web

There is the little stinker!

_DSC3380 web

And My Ben looks just thrilled to be there!

_DSC3392 web

Carson with his great table manners and look he is so responsible he even washed his filthy hands....NOT! But thats okay he has those baby blues!

_DSC3389 web

Then we finished off the evening watching Cabell react from the bottle filled MOUNTAIN DEW she just downed, Thanks PawPaw! Not the caffeine free sprite, milk or water it was the Mountain Dew the most sugar the most caffeinated drink EVER!

_DSC3390 web

and cake!

It was a normal fun but crazy evening with the family! I wouldn't have it any other way.

Allyson Causey Photography is now Tweeting! For all you fellow Tweeters I need friends and need them bad. I look like such a newbie with 0 followers.

Just Go HERE to follow Me:)
Have you ever wondered why your photos seem to come out blue or a funky shade of yellow? Well most likely you are using the wrong white balance.

White Balance (WB)compensates for the differences in color temperature of the surrounding light.

I am sure you all have once in your time of photographing someone you have notice that indoor light is not the same color as natural light. Well that is where you WB setting comes into play. You have a couple of different ways to get this right.

1. Use Auto White Balance (which is the default on your camera but not always the best)
2. Use a preset; cloudy, shade, sunny, flash, tungsten, florescent (works great 90% of the time)
3. Custom setting using a grey card (the best but sometimes not practical)

I would suggest trying to get off auto and begin experimenting with the presets. I use them 98% of the time. The only KEY thing of getting this right is remembering to change your WB each time you move from one light to another. Here are some pictures below that show you how each setting can change to the look of your photograph.

Flash (no flash was used)

Now see how just one small setting can change the look or temperature for technical terms? The photo was taken with a mix of light. Fluorescent and cloudy light so the custom or even the fluorescent setting is what worked the best. Sometime when you use two or more different light sources and you want to get right it is best you use a custom setting. (we will talk more on that later) Also if you are shooting in RAW you will be able to change your WB in post processing. This works like a charm when you forget to change setting from going into the shade from the sun this is a saving grace! (we will be talking more on shooting in RAW vs. JPEG next week) So go and grab that trusty manual and see how to change your WB setting and try it out! You will be amazed at the difference it makes by not relying on you Auto White Balance. One last tip! I took a class once and my instructor said if you are unsure you could always take a few test shots to see which works best or you could just set it to cloudy. That tip has seem to work for me when I have been unsure and didn't have time to take a test shot. Hope I have shed some light on White Balance! Now go and be brave and work those White Balance Presets!

Have a great weekend.

It is that time of year again, Track Season. Since Ben has gone on to bigger and better things, aka High School & JROTC he is no longer running track. So I was cheering on Roger as he had is first track meet. He was in two events the 800 and got 3rd and the 4x400 and got 1st! It was fun but long afternoon.

_DSC3226 web

Daddio spent the most of his time doing this. Trying to keep our Tasmanian Princess from bouncing off the bleachers.
